What do you value?

Sometimes it is good for us to look at our lives and see what is of most valuable to us. To many people place too much value on making money and becoming successful. It is good to have goals in our careers and even in our finances, but that is not what should be of utmost importance to us. That should not be what we base our self-worth and personal value on. In Matthew 6, God’s Word tells us to be more concerned about storing up heavenly things than earthly things. When we leave this earth there will not be an armored car following us to the cemetery with all our worldly goods. However, what will be following us is the people that we have placed great value on here on earth. The ones that we have taken time to love and place of most importance to us. People are the only things that we can take to heaven with us. So, reflect on these words and take some time to give love to those you value most on earth.

Take Time To Listen

This quote is really something to think about. Be sure that you take time to sit down, get comfortable and listen to what your children have to say. If they feel you are too busy to listen they will soon quit talking, which will soon bring a lack of communication, and then a huge gap between you and your child. Don’t wait until they are older to develop this habit. Continue to do it often. They need us as parents to listen no matter what age they are. So ……sit down……..get comfortable……..and listen! It will be well worth your time I can promise.

Family Matters

Relationships are made up of two or more emotionally complicated people. Sometimes because of hurts, one or both of those people can build up a wall between them. This can especially happen with teenagers and parents.

Parents are exceptionally busy these days and teenagers have very strong opinions about EVERYTHING. If they begin to feel a lack of love and concern or that they are being treated unfairly, up goes the wall!

So if you find that you are in a situation like this, and you feel there is no way to get through to your loved one, don’t despair…….recognizing that wall is the first step to tearing it down! It may not be as easy as just saying, “I feel like there is a wall between us,” because it may have taken months or years to build that wall.

Ron Luce, President of Teen Mania Ministries, says that many teens say they wish that their parents would sometimes just admit that they are at fault too.
That could be the thing that could start chipping away at the wall! Admit to your loved one that you realize you have made mistakes too. Begin a communication between you that helps each to see how the other is feeling. Be willing to forgive because forgiveness can begin melting that wall quickly!

Show Your Love

William Shakespeare said, “They do not love who do not show their love.” These are great words for us to remember. Saying “I love you” is easy and can become a habit with no feeling behind it. We say we love all kinds of things like cookie dough ice cream, mexican food, football, or some hobby. Even with the things like that, we have no problem putting forth some effort to have those things in our life.

In the same way, we should put forth the effort to SHOW our love to our spouses and family members. Actions really do speak louder than words. Our words of love are more believable when our actions are consistent with them. It might take more effort and time to show “I love you” than it does to say it, but the memories of that action will last much longer and have much more impact.

Let Go Of The Past

Katherine Mansfield advised, “Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy. You can't build on it. It is only good for wallowing in.”

Even the Apostle Paul said; “ Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 3:13-14)

The past is always going to be the way it was. There is no way we can change it. However it is so wonderful to know that we can begin from where we are today no matter what our past is. There is no need for us to waste our todays and our tomorrows lamenting about the past!

We have all made mistakes! Some of those mistakes have affected us personally & some have affected our family and loved ones. What's done is done but it is time to move forward. Make a choice today to stop looking at where you have been and start looking at where you can be.
